The western High Atlas range known as Toubkal massif offers a multitude of dramatic peaks and populated valleys. Walking through Berber villages will give you an insight into the local culture of these friendly people while the climb up Mount Toubkal will enchant you with great views from the top of North Africa’s highest peak.

You will be escorted by a qualified mountain leader and a crew of a cook and mule handlers. Average walking 5 hours per day, luggage will be carried by mules.

Overnight in tent or at the mountain refuge according to your choice.

Day 1  Marrakech or Imlil - Toubkal base camp 3200m

On arrival to the hamlet of Imlil, the starting point of all the climbs, you will meet your local crew of mule handlers. Luggage and equipment will be carried by mules all the way to the base camp. The walk starts with a zigzag mule path to the village of Aremd, built on a glacial moraine. Then you cross a dry river bed to catch another regular path following the valley up to the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch known for locals for its curative power and for trekkers as a refreshment stop. Your Tour Leader will tell about its history and customs then the climb gets a bit steeper but always on a well maintained zigzag mule track.

After a picnic lunch you continue on an alpine scenery with high peaks both sides to the base camp near Toubkal (Neltner) refuge where the camp will be set for two nights. Driving time: 1:30 hrs / Walking: approx. 8 miles, 5:30 hrs

Day 2  Ascent Mount Toubkal 4165 m

An early start to conquer the highest peak in North Africa to be able to see the sunrise over the mountain ridges while walking up. The path is a combination between scree slopes, zigzags and solid steps. Once arrived to the pass of Tizi n Toubkal at 3975m you can see the summit and the walk along the ridge gets less steeper. The breathtaking views from the top worth the effort and reward the determination.

After a rest at the top, you will retrace your way back to the base camp for a late lunch. The rest of the afternoon is left for relaxation…

Day 3  Base camp - Imlil - Marrakech

After breakfast you leave the mountain scenery and walk down the valley back to Imlil with a lunch stop on route. Approx. 4 to 5 hrs walking. In the afternoon meet the driver and transfer back to Marrakech.
