Essaouira is the most popular of the coastal towns, a town for relaxation, but also a place of inspiration for painters, artists, craftsmen, musicians and writers. Even a short visit of two days allows an interesting and great introduction to this bustling but relaxing town at the shore of the wild Atlantic.

 

Day 1 Marrakech - Essaouira

09:00 Your tour leader and driver will meet you at your hotel. In eastern direction you drive from Marrakech to the Atlantic coast and the town of Essaouira. This old town was a Portuguese fortress, still these days Essaouira shows the influence of several dynasties and tribes, as arab, berber and Portuguese. The traditional port, the shipyard, the Scala and the beach are only some of the highlights of this town. Well known is the town for arts and crafts and the music festivals. Enjoy a walk in the narrow streets of the Medina, with the whitewashed houses with brilliant blue doors and window frames, the boutiques, the market, the bustling activity. Enjoy fresh fish and seafood from the last fishing for lunch at the typical stalls right at the main square and the port. You choose your fish or crab, the cook will grill it right away and serve with bread and tomato salad. Afternoon guided orientation walk to get a first impression of this coastal town. Driving: 170 km, approx. 3 hours.

Day 2  Essaouira - Marakech

The morning is free and dedicated to explore on your own Essaouira with its traditional port, historical Medina, colourful cooperatives and shops. Maybe you want to go for a camel or horse ride at the beach?

Or are you interested in an optional cooking class and learn how to prepare the Moroccon main dish Tajine (cost depend on group size, to be paid on site, lunch included)? Early afternoon you leave Essaouira and drive back to Marrakech. Enroute you will stop at an Argan oil cooperative. Argan trees are endemic, also called iron tree. The Argan oil is very precious and used for medicine, cosmetic, delicious edible oil and more. In a cooperative you can learn all about it. Late afternoon arrival at Marrakech. Driving: 170 km, approx. 3 hours. End of services.
