A great introduction to the Moroccan culture. From Marrakech you will head up North to Fes. As you are moving into the heart of the Middle Atlas, the medieval city of Fes will take you centuries back to the intrigues of a mixed culture of moorish, jewish, berber and arab culture. On the way to Casablanca, you will visit more of the Imperial cities of Morocco as well as the Roman ruins of Volubilis.

Day 1  Marrakech - Fes

07:30 Your tour leader and driver meet you at your hotel. You leave the Red city of Marrakech and head to the ondulating foothills of the Central High Atlas. The fertile plain of Beni Mellal shows the Moroccan modern agriculture, this region is also called 'Little California'. As you climb steadily towards the Middle Atlas, the scenery becomes greener and changes to Atlas Ceder forests. Before arriving at Fes you will pass by Ifrane, a university town and also known for winter holidays. Driving: 480 km, approx. 8 hours driving.

Day 2  Fes

Fullday sightseeing in Fes. From a small hill and the old Borj you enjoy a nice view to the city of Fes, one of the most preserved medieval Islamic cities in the world. Your guide will accompany you to the old Medina, through the very narrow streets, to the souks and the tanneries. The major sites are the Karaouine Mosque, the Medersas, the Nejjarine place with the old caravanserail and others. You will feel the spirit and life of ancient times. Interesting are also the sites and places outside the Medina, in Fes Jedid, like the Royal Palace and the old jewish quarter, known as Mellah. You can also visit the ceramic factory where the production is still going on in the same manner as during the last centuries. Lunch and dinner will be in different traditional Moroccan restaurants in the Medina.

Day 3  Fes - Meknes - Rabat

The journey continues to Volubilis, a former site of the Roman Empire where you can still see some preserved mosaics. Not far from Volubilis is the holy site and pilgrimage centre of Moulay Idriss, the founder of the first Moroccan muslim dynasty. Non-Muslims have no access to the shrine. A short drive takes you to Meknès, the 17^th century capital of Morocco. The highlights of Meknès and its rich history are the old Medina and the well-known city gate Bab Mansour which leads to the imperial city of Moulay Ismail with its impressive palaces, gardens and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. You will head then west to Rabat, not only the capital of Morocco, but also another old imperial city. Depending on arrival to Rabat, there will still be some time to visit the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum and a walk in the Kasbah Oudaya. Driving: 250 km, approx. 4 to 5 hrs of driving.

Day 4  Rabat - Casablanca Airport or Marrakech

Transfer from your hotel at Rabat to the international airport of Casablanca or to Marrakech. Driving to Casablanca airport approx. 1 hour, to Marrakech approx. 4 hours. End of services.
